Flights and Rail
Hanover is well connected to many European cities and offers a variety of cheap flight options.
✈️ If possible, choose a flight to Hanover as your final destination, because the journey by train from Hamburg, Berlin or Frankfurt usually takes about 1.5 – 3 hours. Furthermore, only Frankfurt has a large railway station directly at the airport. From the airports in Hamburg or Berlin you have to travel to the main station first to get a faster and long distance train connection.
🚅 Hanover is good connected by train from all major cities. Please note that Deutsche Bahn trains are often delayed, which may prevent you from reaching your connecting train. If possible, it is therefore advisable to choose direct train connections or allow sufficient time for changing trains.
⏱️ The average journey time by train from:
Frankfurt Airport to Hanover is between 2.5 and 3.5 hours.
From Hamburg main station to Hanover: 1,5 hours
From Berlin main station to Hanover: 2 hours
🚃 The route from Hanover Airport (HAJ) to Hanover Medical School (MHH) by public transportation:
- At the airport, take the S5 (S-Bahn) directly below Terminal C — towards Hanover Central Station.
- Get off the train at main station.
- At the main station, take one of the lines U1, U2 or U8 (U8 towards Messe / U1 Sarstedt / U2 Gleidingen) and travel two stops to Aegidientorplatz station.
- At Aegidientorplatz, change to the U4 line towards Roderbruch. The platforms for the U4 are opposite each other — so simply change sides on the same platform level.
- Take the U4 to the Medizinische Hochschule stop. From there, it is only a few minutes’ walk to the main entrance of the MHH.
⏱️ The total journey time is approximately 1 hour.
🚃 The route from the main station to Hanover Medical School (MHH) by public transportation:
- At the main station, take one of the lines U1, U2 or U8 (U8 towards Messe / U1 Sarstedt / U2 Gleidingen) and travel two stops to the Aegidientorplatz station.
